Innsbruck Alpine brings 4.5 Million Euros to the region – 10,000 participants set to take part in 2027

INNSBRUCK, 14. Oktober 2026 – The adidas Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival (IATF) reinforces its sporting and economic significance for Tyrol, as demonstrated by its latest economic impact study. In 2026, the IATF generated 32,098 overnight stays and a primary economic impact of 4.5 million euros driven by consumer spending. For 2027, organizer Alexander Pittl is aiming for another milestone: 10,000 participants will be admitted. This will further cement the IATF’s place among Europe’s largest trail running events. From next year, the festival will also become part of the international World Trail Major Series.

Just in time for the start of the Heart of Trails Festival—which is also organized by Laufwerkstatt and will make its debut in Innsbruck from October 16 to 18, 2026—the results of the economic impact study on the 2026 Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival were published. The analysis was conducted by w/eo, a spin-off of the University of Innsbruck, in cooperation with Laufwerkstatt. It was based on event data and a standardized online survey of 1,545 athletes.

IATF’s multi-million-Euro impact boosts the Region

“It is with great pleasure, and as a testament to the IATF’s eleven-year development, that we look at these impressive figures: 9,032 athletes, 13 competitions, and a primary economic impact of 4.5 million euros driven by consumer spending. It’s wonderful to see how trail running uniquely connects sport, the natural environment, and the city, creating an impact that extends far beyond the races themselves,” says Alexander Pittl, managing director of Laufwerkstatt and IATF organizer, clearly delighted with the study’s findings.

Peter Paul Mölk, Chairman of Innsbruck Tourism, highlights the festival’s strategic importance for the region: “The IATF provides valuable tourism momentum, especially in the pre-season, and brings to life the full diversity of the Innsbruck region—from the city to the Alpine mountains. With over 30,000 overnight stays and an average length of stay of 2.9 nights, the festival generates significant economic value. As a partner from the very beginning, we support the IATF out of conviction and are delighted with its successful development.” The study also shows that participants recognize this positive development: 92 percent were (very) satisfied with the IATF 2026, 89 percent are likely to participate again, and 65 percent would recommend the festival to others.

Pittl: “Our Goal for 2027 Is 10,000 Participants”

Next year, organizer Alexander Pittl aims to make the IATF the third event in Europe to reach this milestone: “Our stated goal for the coming year is 10,000 participants—an ambitious step that will further strengthen the IATF’s position among Europe’s leading trail running events. We’ve already recorded 7,000 registrations in the first few weeks.” In addition, from 2027 onward, the IATF will be part of the World Trail Major Series, an international network of independent and renowned trail running events. This will place Innsbruck on the calendar of a global race series and further raise the profile of Innsbruck as a destination on the international trail running scene.
